A Visual Commentary on Body Ideals

Cynicism

In today’s society, the body is often treated like a fashion trend—temporary, curated, and increasingly difficult to keep up with. Beauty ideals such as thinness and symmetry have reached extremes, shaped by sexist and racist stereotypes. Despite growing awareness, these idealized bodies continue to dominate visual culture.
This four-image series uses a woman’s body to explore those expectations, playing with symmetry as both a visual and conceptual tool. Inspired by ancient artistic canons, the work reflects on how certain standards have shifted over time—while others remain deeply rooted.
